There is no denying that the Lord uses the Holy Spirit to instill his words, declare his divine will and purpose, and give us direct word when the Spirit leads the congregation. There are many different spiritual gifts which the Lord blesses his people with, and they are outlined for us in his Word.
1) Word of Wisdom
2) Word of Knowledge
4) Gifts of Healing
5) Working of Miracles
7) Discerning of Spirits
8) Speaking in diverse Tongues
9) Interpretation of Tongues
These gifts of the Spirit are all very important, both to the Body of Christ as well as the individual Christian. Our focus on praise and worship to the Lord involves our acknowledgement of the Spirit working through us, leading us outside of our physical selves and into the throne room of the Heavenly Father. In the Spirit, we operate as the Lord wills, taking careful note of what the Spirit is saying. The Holy Spirit is very much the operating force at work when we speak about the "presence" of God, and the power of praise brings that presence closer and closer, regardless of our location or situation.
When we talk about singing "in the Spirit," we are referencing the concept of 'total praise,' where the Spirit of the Lord takes our bodies and our instrument of voice- and by following the guidance of the Spirit within us, leads us in a manner that we never could begin to follow on our own.

"So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind."So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind."
